What are the Differences Between a Full Spectrum and Isolate CBD Product?

When purchasing CBD products one of the most regularly asked questions that arises from consumers is what is the difference between a product that contains isolate CBD vs full spectrum CBD oil? While both products contain CBD oil, the medicinal value retained by our bodies from each product is vastly different.

The main thing to keep in mind when purchasing a product containing CBD isolate is that the product contains isolated Cannabidiol compounds.This method is similar to how the pharmaceutical industry produces their medications. Though buyers of these types of products can, for the most part, assume that it contains no THC consumers are missing out on some of the added medicinal benefits produced from the hemp plant.

Full spectrum CBD products contain what is commonly referred to in the industry as the “entourage effect.” When CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant it contains numerous of other valuable cannabinoids, terpenes, and minerals in trace amounts.

Though cannabinoids such as CBN (Cannabinol), CBG (Cannabigerol), and CBC (Cannabichromene) aren’t abundantly found within the oil they do work synergistically to provide consumers added medicinal benefits. Terpenes also interact with our endocannabinoid systems and are found in full spectrum CBD oil. The terpene Limonene is known to reduce stress and anxiety, Myrcene is useful in reducing inflammation and chronic pain, and Linalool has been found in studies to help patients suffering from arthritis, seizures, and even insomnia.

Its clear that when discussing the benefits that consumers obtain from consuming CBD oil it makes sense to bolster those effects by consuming a full spectrum CBD product rather than an isolate. In fact, the Hadassah Medical School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem studied the comparison side by side in a series of studies in 2015. The prestigious University found that a full spectrum product containing a full range of cannabinoids was more effective in reducing inflammation than a product containing isolate.
